Animation
Grades 9th - 12th
Faculty: Doug Ward
Animation is becoming more and more a part of the mainstream of our daily life. The UCLA Arts Camp in Animation offers the camper an intensive introduction into the story telling, creation and production of the traditional animation process. Taught by UCLA Faculty from the internationally acclaimed UCLA Animation Workshop, participants will learn principles and techniques of animation. The very first day of the workshop everyone will complete 3 animation exercises as a prelude to the learning experience of pre-production, production and completion of a short animated film of their own design. Projects will screen on Friday during the work in progress certificate ceremony. The first of its kind at any major University, participants will be immersed in animation and creative fun from morning till night and leave the workshop with a greater appreciation of animation while feeling like a professional animator. And the best thing about it is that you don’t have to be an artist to be a UCLA Arts Workshop animator.
Taught by adjunct faculty member Doug Ward the animation workshop offers the participant the opportunity of doing several short animated projects within the one week that focus on story telling. The participants from last years’ program continually stay in touch with Doug and only yesterday Doug told me that one of them was hoping to come to the UCLA Animation workshop one day and received his B.A.. Who knows? Anything is possible. The final screening of the projects to an audience is always a crowd pleaser and proves to be one of our most successful and amazing works-in-progress as family and friends laugh at the humor and walk away amazed at how much was accomplished in terms of animated characters and stories within the animation week. The best thing about this workshop is that you don’t have to know how to draw to succeed in the animation process. One of the most creative experiences that the UCLA Arts Camp offers, the Animation Workshop for 2012 is shaping up quickly with its limited enrollment.
