TV Studios
UCLA TFT students learn the art of television production in our television studios. Our relationships and ties with multiple Los Angeles-area studios have garnered generous donations for these spaces from the entertainment industry.
Studio 1
Location: Melnitz 1451
Our best-equipped studio features a new, state-of-the-art Strand Century lighting system and a digital production switcher. The control room panel was donated by Sony Studios and the permanent set came directly from the NBC sitcom Friends. This studio is not available for rental.

- Four Sony BVP-500 broadcast studio cameras with pneumatic pedestals and fully motorized 20×1 zoom lenses
- A large Fisher pneumatic mic boom
- Grass Valley 4000 series digital triple re-entry switcher (effects and chroma key, 20+ inputs)
- Four Sony DSR-80 DVCAM digital video recorders/players for roll-ins and recording
- Pacific Research and Engineering 16 input stereo audio mixing console
- Audio cassette recorder, CD player
- Audio and video patching for bringing in external equipment, including hand held and other cameras
- Two channel, 10+ station intercom system using headsets
- 3M model D-2200 character generator with 20 fonts and floppy disk storage
- Lighting grid with 14 motorized battens
- Strand Century lighting fixtures package with computerized dimmer console
- Large chromakey cyclorama
- Two-curtain system
- Large access doors, one to Studio 2 (hand driven); the other to the outside (motor driven)
Studio 3
Location: Melnitz 1462
Features:
- Three Sony D-30TX cameras with pneumatic pedestals, fully motorized 19×1 zoom lenses
- Three Sony DVCAM (DSR-80) Digital VCRs
- A 10 station, two-channel intercom system
- Grass Valley model 100 switcher with effects
- Medium chromakey cyclorama
- Character generator
- Lighting grid, with fixtures and dimmers, Strand Century computerized console
- Large access door to the hallway (hand driven)
- Pacific Research & Engineering 12 Channel Audio Mixing Console with CD player, audio cassette players/recorders
