"Douchebag" -- cheeky iPhone app promotes alum-produced indie comedy
TFT Producers Program grad Marius Markevicius goes viral with iPhone app
IndieWIRE reports that the micro-indie Sundance hit “Douchebag,” written and directed by Drake Doremus and produced by TFT Producers Program alumnus Marius Markevicius MFA '02, is one of the first non-blockbusters to be promoted with a free iTunes and iPhone app, a ploy hitherto reserved for blueskinned SFX blockbusters.
The low-brow Sundance comedy ... is about two brothers, one on the verge of marriage, who go on a wild goose chase to find the other's fifth-grade girlfriend. While some big studio films (“Tron: Legacy” comes to mind) have developed iPhone apps, this is one of the first little-known indies to try to build a following with a free iTunes iPhone app, available for free download at the Apple app store...
