TFT had a noticeable presence at this year's SXSW
Four films helmed by TFT alums made their debut at this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW), which took place March 7-15 in Austin, Texas. “Random Stop,” the thesis film written and directed by Benjamin Arfmann (MFA, ’13) and lensed by MFA cinematography candidate Justin Perkinson, had its world premiere in the Narrative Shorts competition while “Dog Food,” directed by Brian Crano (BA, ’02), screened in the Midnight Shorts Competition lineup. “13 Sins,” written by screenwriter David Birke (BA, ’83) was on the Midnighters roster; and “10.000 Km” ("Long Distance"), the feature-length thesis film of director Carlos Marques Marcet (MFA, ’12), was one of eight films selected for the Narrative Feature Competition. It earned the Special Jury Recognition for Best Acting Duo prize (for lead actors Natalie Tena and David Verdaguer).

Additionally, former child actor and TFT alum Jesse Draper (BA, ’06), the creator and host of “The Valley Girl Show,” was one of the participants at SXSW’s “The Ongoing Issue of Funding Women Entrepreneurs” panel.
Last year, TFT alum Chris Eska (MFA, ’03) brought his sophomore film, “The Retrieval,” to SXSW as one of eight films contending in the Narrative Feature Competition. The star of “Retrieval,” Tishuan Scott (MFA, ’06), won the Best Actor Jury Award.
