UCLA TFT'S PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS ANNOUNCES NEW ACTING CURRICULUM

On Thursday, April 9, UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television’s (UCLA TFT) Professional Programs, which offers graduate level, non-degree certificate programs focused on entertainment and performing arts, announced a new academic course of study. Conceived and co-created by actress and Adjunct Associate Professor Judith Moreland (Dark Skies, Eagle Eye), The Professional Program in Acting for the Camera is the only course of its kind offered through a professional non-degree certificate program. UCLA TFT faculty and distinguished entertainment industry professionals will teach the classes, which begin on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.

The immersive yearlong course will cover the fundamentals of acting and audition techniques for commercials, single and multi-camera television comedy, the one-hour television drama and film. Emphasis will also be placed on career development, financial planning, self-promotion and marketing.

“The Professional Program in Acting for the Camera is a unique opportunity for aspiring actors to learn the creative side as well as the business side of the acting profession,” says Professional Programs Director Joe Rosenberg. “We focus on both aspects because it is imperative that emerging performers not only hone their acting skills but become expert in navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry.”

Launched in 1994, the UCLA TFT Professional Programs celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. In the past two decades, the program has grown exponentially, providing industry professionals with an opportunity to refine their skill sets, while also networking with other like-minded individuals. The Professional Programs offers graduate level, non-degree courses, modeled after UCLA TFT’s world-renowned M.F.A. curriculum. Professional Programs alumni include Josh Bycel (Happy Endings, Psych, Scrubs), James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, The End of the Tour), Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans, The Flash) and Susan Hurwitz Arneson (Bordertown, South Park), among many others.

The application deadline for the Professional Program in Acting for the Camera is Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015. The deadline for international students is Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015. For more information or to enroll, please visit http://legacy.tft.ucla.edu/programs/professional-programs/.
