Alum’s Action Thriller “Premium Rush” Premieres Friday

Posted on August 24th in Announcement

"Premium Rush," a new film written and directed by alumnus David Koepp '90, follows the story of a bike messenger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) being chased by a villainous cop (Michael Shannon) as he makes an important delivery.

Some of Koepp’s other screenwriting credits include Angels and Demons, Mission: Impossible and Jurassic Park. This is the third film that he has both written and directed and his first film with major stunts.

Koepp says that filming in New York traffic was like “filming on water, because everything is constantly shifting in relation to itself. So it's like everything is moving, but none of it is moving at the same speed. Worse than water, I think, because if you fall on water, it's a much softer landing than if you fall on Broadway."

From the L.A. Times:

"'Premium Rush,' starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon, is a lot like the ticking-clock thriller of 'Speed,' except instead of a big bus and a bigger bomb, there's a brakeless bike and a small envelope. Which actually doesn't sound like it would work at all as a tightly wound slice of street action, but it does, and in radically fresh ways."
