Samantha Tecson was born and raised in San Diego County where she enjoyed regular trips to San Diego Comic-Con. After graduating from San Diego State University, Tecson volunteered at the San Diego International and San Diego Asian films festivals, which furthered her interests in media studies. She also spent some time in the field of education, using her major to give alternatively fun ways for K-12 students to learn. Her current research involves examining mixed-race representation both on and off screen as it works adjacent to and influences fan and audience interpretation of race. She wishes to combine her past in working with students and her current studies to become a professor. Tecson is also a presenter on the UCLA Cineposium team.
