VIDEO: First trailer for Dayton & Faris' new "Ruby Sparks"
"Little Miss Sunshine" alums open second feature film in July
IndieWIRE offers a first look at the trailer for "Ruby Sparks," the upcoming second feature film from Oscar®-nominated TFT alums Jonathan Dayton '80 and Valerie Faris '80.
"Advance buzz is building on the long-awaited return of "Little Miss Sunshine" directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, "Ruby Sparks" (July 25), written by and starring young duo Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan. Fox Searchlight has let loose the poster, promo photos, and a trailer (posted below).
"Call it a [Charlie] Kaufmanesque hipster Pygmalion: a latter day JD Salinger (Dano) suffers from writer's block and love life woes, until he starts to write a character so adorable that she manifests herself in real life. When Dano finds the girl sitting in the flesh on his couch, he's confronted with his desire to love her and the knowledge that she's his own creation. He can rewrite her. And everyone can see her. He has complete control over her. What will he do with this power?
"Kazan plays Ruby, the MPDG (Manic Pixie Dream Girl) du jour. Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas, and Steve Coogan round out the "Ruby Sparks" ensemble.
