The accomplishments of MFA Production/Directing candidate Alethea Avramis, who filmed her Cannes Festival offering "The Foreigner" in her ancestral homeland of Greece, have been noted in an unusual venue: The Greek edition of the global woman's magazine "Cosmopolitan." The Greek text of the write-up translates roughly as follows:

"Alethea was born in America of Greek parents. She studied history at UCLA College, then realized that what she loved most was film directing, and began graduate studies at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. She traveled to Greece last year determined to make the short film "The Foreigner," calling upon the love and admiration for the Greek spirit. She utilized the services of an internet crowd funding site (see the campaign's promotional video below) and managed to raise over $20,000 in three months. The film was shot in Marmari, Laya and the Mani Peninsula, and was admitted to the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner and the 2012 Palm Springs International ShortFest.
