Art in Destruction
What is the connection between destroying a piano and history’s unreliable narrative? Distinguished professor Chon Noriega will explain when he gives the 131st Faculty Research Lecture, a virtual event entitled “Destruction in Art, Art in Destruction,” on Thursday, April 28. Noriega’s lecture focuses on the life and work of artist Raphael Montañez Ortiz, founder of the 1960s destructivist art movement, who has used destruction as an art form grounded in ritual, psychoanalysis and neuroscience. The FX miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven, created by Dustin Lance Black (BA ’96), debuted April 28 on Hulu.
Professor Myung Hee Cho and Lecturer Aaron Rhyne are the scenic designer and projection designer, respectively, for the Broadway production of For Colored Girls, which opened April 20.
Professor Lap Chi Chu, and alumnae Hana S. Kim (MFA ’12), Ava Lalezarzadeh (BA ’20)and Yee Eun Nam (MFA ’14) have been nominated for Lucille Lortel Awards.

David Koepp (BA ’90) has teamed with director Kathryn Bigelow and Netflix for the thriller Aurora, based on his novel.
Graduate student Julie Piscina directed "So Worth It," a commercial spot for the launch of DoorDash’s DashPass for Students membership program.
Michael Stuhlbarg stars with Colin Firth and Toni Collette in the HBO Max miniseries The Staircase, debuting May 6.
