On Nov. 12, UCLA TFT Interim Dean Brian Kite chats with UCLA Regents' Lecturer Michelle Krusiec (Hollywood), an actor, writer, director and activist, about her 25-year career in Hollywood as a woman of color in an industry that has both tokenized and given her visibility.
When casting director Lynn Stalmaster passed away in February, Hollywood lost one of the great ones: a man who was as known for his kindness as he was for his professional excellence. Now, a fund for MFA students has been established in his name, carrying on his legacy of helping others.

FTVDM Professor Steve Anderson’smixed reality installation project, "Live-VR Corridor (after Bruce Nauman),” which was created with UCLA TFT students, completed a sold-out, 10-day festival run at the Beijing International Film Festival in September.
Chris Cooke (BA ’71, MFA ’86) has been named the interim co-chair of the Editing discipline at American Film Institute, where he is upgrading the first-year program to include more courses in all aspects of storytelling through editing.
Coby Getzug (BA ’15) will be appearing in The Band’s Visit at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Nov. 30-Dec. 19.
FTVDM Professor Kristy Guevara-Flanagan’sAguilas has made the IDA Shorts shortlist. The film will also be part of DOC NYC’s Shortlist program and will premiere on PBS’ POV on Dec. 6.
Geert Heetebrij (MFA ’14) is the writer and director of the psychological thriller Vronika, which is currently in post-production.
Ren Hanami (BA ’84) is being inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame. The actress and producer is currently the national chairman of the SAG-AFTRA Asian Pacific American Media Committee.
Stillwater, the Apple TV+ animated series written and executive produced by Rob Hoegee (MFA ’96), won a 2021 Peabody Award earlier this year and was nominated for three Daytime Emmy Awards.
Kristi Hoi (MFA ’20) has received a Bronze Student Academy Award in the Narrative category for her short film No Law, No Heaven.
Big, Strong, and Brave, the first feature screenplay written by Summera Howell (BA ’10), is both an Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting quarterfinalist and a WIF/The Black List Writing Lab feature semifinalist.
Justin Lerner (MFA ’07) is the director and MFA student Pedro Murcia is the co-producer of Cadejo Blanco, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and premiered at the Guadalajara Film Festival.
Kristina Lloyd (BA ’99) is directing and producing the YouTube series Virtually Single.
Mary Alexandra Stiefvater (BA ’99) has published her latest book, Angeles.
